A holistic learning and understanding of what it is to be a field guide in Africa, mentored by highly skilled trainers from one of the leading Field Guiding Training schools in Southern Africa. Be prepared for loads of safari experiences in a game reserve that offers some of the highest biodiversity in South Africa and hosts the big 5*. In parallel, indulge yourself with plenty of resourcing time, unplugging from the digital world and reconnecting with your sense of belonging to Nature.

This 5 or 7 day tailor-made bush skills workshop is for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the African wilderness… Join a group of like-minded nature enthusiasts that will allow you a profound (re)connection with yourself and Nature while being awed by a myriad of mind-blowing new learnings ! Get a holistic approach and understanding of the “bush” activities. Unplug from civilisation, tune in all your senses, enjoy pure silence and simply “being in the moment”, discover the art of tracking in the most inspiring environment.

What awaits

  • About 4 to 5 hours per day of amazing experience in the field among big 5*.
  • A minimum of 2 hours of “lecture time” on many different wildlife topics, either indoors or open air.
  • A total of 7 hours per day of fascinating learning and interaction with wildlife !
  • Safari game drives in open vehicle.
  • Full immersion bush walks with armed guides.
  • Training and practical exercises in the wilderness.
  • Silent time for yourself, introspection, meditation, journaling, breathing exercise…

Tandala Camp

Your Trainers

At LFGA, trainers have a gift for pedagogy and will guide you closely on your journey of discovery and interpretation of the bush. Safety will always come first and they have decades of training and field experience.

Learning process

This workshop integrates professional teachings of many different topics such as ecology, game management, birding, trailing, bushcraft, animal behaviour, etc. The teaching does not require specific skill. Through time spent in nature, and a variety of creative processes, you will be able to be awaken to a total different reality, where you will rediscover your own deep wisdom and sense of belonging to Nature.

North Dinokeng
Game Reserve

North Dinokeng, host of the Big 5*, is malaria Free and a mere 90 minutes from Johannesburg International Airport. The reclaimed wilderness attests to sound conservation principles and is in a transitional zone between biomes, offering some of the highest biodiversity in South Africa.

Your tented camp

Situated at Tau camp where your training will take place, the camp is unfenced and unspoilt, eco-friendly and solar powered. This tented camp is a hotspot for game movements and the remoteness of the camp ensures that you will experience the best of the wilderness!


Several tents, each sleeping two people with twin beds. Outside shower and toilets are open-air and are situated within close proximity to the tents. Central and communal area with dining area and a boma area for exciting evenings around the fire!

Food

  • The workshop is vegetarian on request.
  • You will be provided with a metallic water bottle and drinking water will be provided all along your retreat (we encourage you to practise self-consciousness about the use of plastic).
  • For alternative dietary requirements, please consult with us.

What's included?

  • Pre-trip discussions (zoom call) – Get to know your guides and ask any logistical questions you might have.
  • All mentioned activities and training in our programme (daily safari game drives and bush walks with professional guides in open 4×4 safari vehicles).
  • All big 5 will be seen in the area (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalos)!
  • Food, water and soft beverage.
  • Guided self-reflective time throughout the trip.
  • Post-trip follow through with your tribe to keep you tuned on your learning.

What's not included:

  • Domestic or international flight – Nature Connexion can assist you with your flight reservation.
  • Transfer between JNB Or Tambo and Tau camp – on request.
  • Travel and medical insurance – compulsory.
  • Alcoholic drinks.
  • Additional activities not described in the package such as community visits, anti-poaching experience or Conservation when available on site.
  • Note that there is cell network at Tau camp but no Wifi (Wifi available at a main lodge close by).
  • Laundry.
  • Telephone calls.
